New Shoots
It is always quite strange when bare rooted plants arrive in the depths of winter.
I ordered a small (very small) tree peony, which arrived in December – a couple of dry sticks and some fleshy roots. Our soil was unworkable – so I stuck it in a raised bed in the veg garden … “for now” … as you do … and now its growing!
The Turning Year 
I think my soil is too light for a Tree Paeony, I lost one a while back. They are beautiful plants and I hope yours survives when you have to move it!

That’s what worries me – moving it – perhaps I should just leave it in the “Kitchen Garden” 😉

I love the fingers of its hands reaching up to the light…I have one but it hasn’t bloomed in years…I wonder what I need to do to encourage it? Several time it bloomed just before a big spring rain and I put a big umbrella over it. I wanted the bloom to last longer~~ gail

Karen .. that is a beautiful picture of the peony tree .. I understand you are hesitant about replanting it else where .. what gorgeous muted colours the shoot has .. I’m sure it will be happy where ever you put it : )

There’s just something so happy-making about seeing shoots of new growth on a plant. Yea for the advent of spring and green growing things!

I may have lost the one I had in Burton, but hopefully his little brother will survive. It does have some new growth, so fingers crossed!
I think yours should stay where it is for the season. Would be such a shame to loose it now.

New shoots are pretty and this one is especially so. I hope it lives for you.
