No! Don’t grow, go back

black-beauty

We have had a mild spell for the past few weeks – but to-day it has been high winds, lashing rain and has turned very chilly – with even colder weather to come.

2 days ago I was pleased to see this hardy geranium “black beauty” pushing up through the soil – now I wish it had waited a bit longer.

  1. Sometimes they do come too early, but at least geraniums are a hardy lot! I hope it weathers what’s left of winter.

  2. It was decidedly rather windy here for an hour or so earlier on tonight Karen but it has abated now. My hardy geraniums have been coming out from under cover too this last week or so, but I think that they are tough customers even when so small 🙂 I like the marker stone.

  3. Does the foliage on this geranium stay red or dark red?
I really like your plant markers.I have little pieces of slate but never thought about using them for markers. Nice idea.

And what did you use to write on the slate? And more importantly, will it last?

  5. Mine is just showing above the surface. I planted it last year and it didn’t do much. Hopefully it will make more of an effort this year. I like the label. Are you near a slate mine? (lol).

Today we have frozen snow!!Lots of little things that have dared to show their faces will be sorry! I love the look of your geranium. Is it black in flower or foliage or both?

Did you see the news with a lady reporter in Manchester covered in Snow today, Wednesday? I guess we have some more cold weather to come. Lets hope your geranium makes it.!!

  8. Thank you all for dropping in.

The geranium black beauty is supposed to be easy to grow, with a height of 18 ins and a spread of 14ins – but like easy gardener – mine put up a very poor show last year … (its first year)

Linda – it has dark foliage with a blue flower.

Easy gardener – slate! we have lots (lol)

Dobby – I used a silver marker pen – it has come off some of the marker slates, a little bit.

P – err no I dont watch the new 🙂

Anna – Yes they are tough customers – we have a nursery near here that specializes in them – which is lovely to visit.

Nancy – I am sure it will be OK – they just look so vulnerable when they first poke up through the soil
